I woke up abruptly and my heart was beating fast and I could feel it. I wasn t dreaming anything so that couldn t be why. I was too scared to sleep again because I could just feel my heartbeat without having to actually put my hand on my heart. I m 16 years old
Yes, but you need to define:
1) how fast is your heart rate, and
2) are there other symptoms associated with the rapid heart rate
Under stress, or after caffeine, cold pills, etc our heart rates increase.
However, if yours exceeds 100 beats per minute - please see your doctor.
Check the pulse at your wrist (with your palm up the artery to check is on the outside, under the thumb). Or you can check your neck artery (slide to one side on the outside of the throat).
Count the beats per minute.
If you are dizzy, have chest pain, shortness of breath, etc while the rate is up - definitely see the doctor!
Most likely this is not worrisome - but always best to be certain!!
