Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a fissurectomy with a sphincterotomy this morning. Now I seem to have a small hemorrhoid. Is it normal to get a hemorrhoid after surgery? Taking percocets but that doesn't seem to help the pain, which seems to be coming from the hemorrhoid. Suggestions ?
Hello, Developing a hemorrhoid after a sphincterotomy is unusual as fecal impaction is relieved through the procedure and unless there is need to strain while passing stool chances of development of hemorrhoid are rare. What you have felt is more likely to be a loose tag of skin and for confirmation, please consult your surgeon for an opinion. Pain can be eased through sitz baths, local application of xylocaine jelly or other creams. Please see that you pass a soft stool without straining by increasing the amount of fiber in your diet and lactulose if necessary. Hope this helps.
