Is It Normal To Have Blood In Bowel Movement After Taking Flucloxacillin?

I have been taking Flucloxacillin for infected eczema but yesterday started to have a small amount of blood when I made a bowel movement. However this morning there was a lot more - the leaflet in the tablets say if there is blood in a bowel movemt to stop immediately and see a Dr. I have made a Dr s appointment but am very worried - is this normal?

Flucloxacillin is an antibiotic that is used in the treatment various bacterial Infections such as skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, respiratory tract Infections like pneumonia and many more. This medication has some side effects of its own. This medication may cause blood in the stool during defecation, blood in the urine etc.

Again, it may cause pseudo-membranous colitis that is inflammation of large intestine due to overgrowth of C. Difficile bacteria. It is a common cause of bloody diarrhea or bloody stool during or after Flucloxacillin use. You should stop taking this antibiotic immediately and inform your doctor first for medical help.
