Is It Normal To Have Blood In Stools Post Laparascopic Surgery?
I had a laparoscopic surgery last saturday and yesterday which would make it an entire week since the appendectomy. I passed some diarrhea that was dark brown and black at about 12pm in color but was only a little bit and then about 9 pm later that day I passed a greyish-brown stool that contained what appeared to be fresh blood is it normal to pass blood in stool a week after surgery?
It is not normal to have blood in the stool after appendectomy. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician as soon as possible and performing some tests: - Complete blood count for anemia - An abdominal ultrasound -Coagulation tests - A fibro-colonoscopy may be needed
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
