Is It Normal To Have Excess Bleeding After Medical Termination Of Fetus?
hi.....i have had a medical termination at 16 weeks, due to medical complications with the baby....i now have my first period after it, but the problem is it is really really heavy.....i even had to change my pj's and wash all my sheets in the middle of the night due to excessive bleeding....is this normal?
If what you meant a medically indicated abortion (because of the condition of the fetus) at 16 weeks, if it was performed in a hospital setting via a surgical procedure and at least 4 weeks has gone by since the procedure, you may just be having a heavy period, which can be normal after having been recently pregnant, no matter how far along.
However, if it is less than 4 weeks since the procedure, I am concerned you may have delayed bleeding from the procedure itself and if that is the case- if you are soaking more than one pad an hour or start to feel dizzy or sick you should call your doctor or go to an emergency room.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
