Is It Normal To Have Heavy Bleeding After Taking Clopidogrel?

I had an av fistula placed to prepare for dialysis (I have 11% kidney function). The surgeon prescribed me clopidigrel (plavix). I have been taking it for 3 weeks and started my period and it is extremely heavy. Is there anything I can do because I am already being treated for anemia by my nephrologist?

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. Since you are using the anticoagulant, you tend to bleed heavily during the menstrual cycle. In the current scenario, you should either stop the anticoagulant medication until your period subsides or change the preparation to another combination. If possible, you may get a Mirena IUD inserted to lessen the bleeding. Hormones may also be used with caution in view of the compromised renal function. Endometrial ablation is another possible option. Hope your query has been answered. Wish you good health.
