Is It Normal To Have Irregular Menses After I Stop Taking Depo Shot?

In may of 2011 I stopped taking the depo shot for birth control and by August I had my first period, by December 2011 I had 2 periods 10 days apart from each other and then in January 2012 I didn't have a period at all and then on February 2 I had a period with a lot of pain for the first 2 days. Is this normal or should I seek advice from a doctor and if so what am I to say? I did take a pregnancy test in January to learn it was negative.
