Hello and welcome to health care magic forum,
It seems that the baby is not growing since a month. This is called fetal growth restriction. The baby does not grow and the exact reason may not be found for this.
If the baby is not showing any growth it indicates that there is some problem with the nutrient delivery system to the baby. sometimes it may not get enough
oxygen also. So the environment inside the
uterus becomes more difficult for the baby and it does better after coming out as it is not possible to provide any treatment to the baby inside the uterus. They also tend to pass motions [stools] inside the uterus and then aspirate it creating problems.
After 37 weeks most of the babies [especially growth restricted ones] have all organs developed to functional capacity. So the major problem of preterm birth that is difficulty in respiration is avoided in most cases. Hence it is safer to deliver the baby rather than keep it inside the uterus where it is not getting nourishment and oxygen.
So the doctors decision is a wise one. Please do not worry. Your grand child will do well and all my best wishes are with you both.
Meanwhile tell her to keep a watch on the babies kicks. If the kicks decrease or she does not feel kicks ask her to rush to the emergency as she may need emergency intervention then.
Hope I was able to satisfy your question.
Have a good day.
