I got my first depo shot in January 2011, and I've been spotting every day since. First it was a dark brown/black color and now it is a very light brown color. I'm very concerned because I'm not sure if I'm spotting or having an irregular discharge. Can I please get some help?
Depo shots contain progestin. This hormone affects the uterus and the cycles that one is having. Because this hormone can cause spotting and some bleeding due to contractions, it is best to not be alarmed.
However, it would still be a good idea to watch for excessive bleeding, pain, nausea, or rash. In case any of these develop, please see your doctor right away.
Also, using a barrier contraception like a condom in the initial few weeks of the Depo shot use can help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
