Is It Normal To Lose Hair And Gain Weight With Hypothyroidism?
Im 20 years old and i just got diagnosed with hypothyroid. I am a boxer and i am very active physically. Do all people with this condition lose hair and gain weight? And i've read that this condition could cause infertility. If i take my medication and get my levels normal would infertility still be a problem?
The symptoms of hypothyroidism usually depend on the severity of it. Mild forms are asymptomatic in most of the cases. When TSH level is over 10 mUi/ml, then it may be associated with symptoms such as feeling sleepy, constipation, and hair loss. But it does not mean that the absence of symptoms rules out the diagnosis of hypothyroidism.
Regarding fertility, it does not affect it as long as you keep the hormonal level within the normal ranges. Usually it needs a 4 week period of treatment to stabilize the hormones. So there is no need to get worried at this point.
