Is It Okay To Become Sexually Active Four Years After Treating Genital Herpes?

I am 60 years old and was diagnosed with genital herpes when I was in my 40s. I have only had 1 real outbreak when I was diagnosed. I have not been sexually active in about 4 years or more but am currently in a relationship, Should I get a blood test now to see if I am still am to infect someone?

Hi,

Genital herpes causes painful blisters. If you have taken Rx properly, there are no symptoms now, no need to worry about and one can have sexual intercourse. To allay the anxiety, you can get your physical examination done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pinal Vaghasiya, General & Family Physician
