Is It Possible To Be HIV Positive Despite Negative VDRL Test Report?
I have been feeling very bad for a week after having CT scan of brain. I found my that hiv symptoms are matching with my present condition. I did vdrl test which was negative. Is there any possibility of HIV positive though the VDRL test was negative?
HIV infection is caused by a virus called 'Human Immunodeficiency virus'. HIV test would help to detect these viral particles in blood.
Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test is a blood test for syphilis, which is a bacterial infection.
Although both of them are considered to be sexually transmitted infections, there is no rule that they need to co-exist.
Hence, one of the tests may come positive and the other can come positive. Kindly consult your doctor for further evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
