Is It Possible To Contact Croup Syndrome After Taking Flu Medicine?

My son is 2yrs 3months old. On 3rd September early morning at around 4.00 am, all of a suddem he started coughing with a barking sound and was finding difficulty in breathing. Later when we took him to the local peadetrician we came to know that he was suffering from croup syndrome. The doctor gave him omnocortil 5 ml 3 times a day and ventrolin 5 ml 5 times a day. It happened almost 5 days after he got his flu vaccine administered. Is it possible to contact such diseasese after taking flu vaccine and moreover what r the side effects of this medicine. When he grows old will he become perfectly fit and fine?

Pediatrician 's  Response
It is not unusual to get croup in this age group. Croup is simply swelling and redness of the uppermost part of the large breathing tubes and is usually caused by viruses. Steroids prescribed would have relieved the airway inflammation. This is not caused by the flu vaccine but instead it should protect him from future croup episodes as influenza and parainfluenza viruses are the commonest culprit for croup. Flu vaccine should protect him against the influenza URTI/croup. This should not cause any problems in the future.
