Is It Possible To Dent A Bone On Tibia After Being Hit Against?

I hit my shin on a solid object that was sticking out of the ground 3-4 weeks ago. The bruise is still there, though going away. When I run my fingers down my tibia I feel a small dent or depression in that area. Is it possible to dent a bone? Is it something I should get x-rayed? I m having no trouble walking and no discomfort unless I press on the area firmly.

Hello,

Usually it's not possible to dent a bone. The following are few facts:
1) Bone bruising or bruising of periosteum or the outer layer of bone can occur that results in pain and collection of blood under periosteum.
2) Fracture of tibia or shin bone can occur.
3) The dent like thing might be due to resorption of hematoma formed due to hitting shin bone against hard surface.
4) As there is no problem in walking, there would be no fracture.
5) if you want, you can have an x ray done to rule out any fractures.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
