Is It Possible To Grow New Hair On The Scalp?

Hi. I have been suffering from hair loss since 5 years. Now i consulted with a doctor and he has given me Minoxidil topical solution USP 10. Is it possible to grow new hair on my scalp? Can I get a full head of hair? How much time will it take to work?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The management of hair loss depends on the cause of hair loss.
Some conditions cause reversible hair loss and some cause permanent hair loss.
Temporary hair loss occurs in conditions like fungal infection of scalp or dandruff, injury to scalp, lichen planus etc.
Permanent hair loss occurs due to hormonal abnormalities like male pattern baldness.
Minoxidil topical solution helps to re-grow the hair, however, the effect is short lived and it only lasts till he time it is used.
Discontinuation of use of mnoxidil leads to hair fall at faster rate than what it was previously.
Thus, the effect of minoxidil is temporary.
More permanent ways of regain include hair transplant, platelet rich plasma infusion etc.
Thus, you need to consult your dermatologist for clinical assessment and prescription.

Thanks and take care
