Is It Possible To Have Mono Inspite Of Test Showing Negative?
My daughter had blood work done today after being sick for almost 2 weeks. White Blood Count is 17.3 thousand, lymphocytes is 55%, metamyelocytes is 1%, atypical lymphs is 11, AST is 76, and alt is 207. Mono test is negative. Dr thinks it is Mono even though the test came back negative. Does this seem accurate? Is there any other alternatives with this kind of blood work?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The blood report shows increased number of lymphocytes and elevated number of atypical lymphocytes. Increased number of lymphocytes suggest conditions like viral infection, chronic infection etc. The increased number of white cells are most likely due to increased number of lymphocytes. AST and ALT are liver enzymes and their levels should be below 40 IU/L. Thus, levels of AST and ALT upto 76 and 207 IU/L is due to some kind of liver pathology like viral infection, damage to liver cells due to drugs, toxins etc. I suggest you to consult your physician for clinical assessment and to look for focus of infection and to assess the liver function tests.
