Thank you for the query.
I would like to enquire about your age and gender and whether you suffer from any other associated comorbidities (apart from diabetes and hypertension) like thyroid dysfunction and dyslipidemia.
You have been diabetic for a long term (approx 20 yrs), and though it seems to be well controlled (as per reports on 17.6.11), coronary artery disease is a very common macrovascular complication of long term diabetes. You have a history of probable stable angina and tested positive on TMT (26.6.11). A coronary angiography (CAG), shall reveal the exact status of your coronary arteries (blood vessels supplying the heart muscles). If there is no stenosis, one can continue with medications and conservative management. However, in case a significant stenosis is detected, a stent (or in multivessel disease- surgery) may be needed, to prevent further complications. CAG is a minor procedure done in the cardiac cath-lab and associated with minimal complications.
You need to get some investigations done recently (the information you have provided are almost 3 yrs old). If you have not done yet, it is advisable to get your lipid profile checked. Also a recent record of your blood sugar is needed. A 12 lead ECG, usually reveals coronary abnormalities, but may not do so always. I presume that you have already undergone an echocardiography.
Since, you have two risk factors (diabetes mellitus and hypertension) and a history of a probable cardiac event, angiography may be done in your case.
Please do consult your cardiologist for a plan of management. You may need to start on certain medications.
Hope this helps you out.
