hi my name is AAAA im 23 and i have a ventricular septal defect and flu has been going around everywhere and i work in the nursery at my church where kids keep getting sick with flu and other stuff and i was wondering if it was safe for a person with a ventricular septal defect to get a flu shot. i had a bad case of flu in jan of 2011 where i almost died so i really dont want flu again please help me.
Yes - it is safe to have the flu shot.
It is rather preferable - effects of contracting the flu could be far worse.
Heart failure or infection is contra-indication..
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
A patient with an VSD is more prone for repeated respiratory tract infection. It is better to avoid such attacks if possible. Dont get exposed. Y you are not treated for VSD? Is the size very small?
