Is It Safe Thread Sliding Out From Vagina Post Episiotomy?
Hi. I m 4 weeks postpartum. I had an episiotomy (one continuous suture) and forcep delivery. The episiotomy site looks healed and i dont have any pain or discomfort but when i just went to the bathroom and wiped, a 10 inch (i measured) string slid out of the episiotomy.. I know the stitch is supposed to dissolve but should i get checked out before my 6 week check up because of the full stitch sliding out?
Based on your description, I would not worry. Sutures used to stitch up an episiotomy tend to dissolve over a period of 4 weeks. It is likely that your suture dissolved at one end and it slipped out. As long as you have no fresh bleeding, no fever, and no discharge, you can wait for your 6 week check up.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
