Is It Safe To Abruptly Stop Dialysis If Kidney Function Improves?
my dad is 76, had double bypass in dec.2010. his kidney function was 23 percent prior to surgery, he's been on dialysis since the surgery, they did kidney function on him and he still has 21.7 function left. so they said he didnt have to stay on dialysis. they are monitoring him for two weeks and if he is still doing good they will take out the "port" or the dialysis catheter. My question is-- is it safe to just abruptly stop dialysis??
Hi. Thanks for choosing HCM. Yes, they can stop dialysis if the patient is improving and have no uremic symptoms. But if the kidney size is small then please make sure you have an AV Fistula done for future dialysis if needed. Then they can directly do dialysis from AV Fistula and no port needed for that again. Good luck.
