Is It Safe To Breastfeed After Taking Misoprostol?
I am a mother of 7 month old and breastfeeding. In order to end an unwanted pregnancy doctor has suggested mifegest followed by misoprostol after 2 days. For how many days after taking mifegest I have to stop breastfeeding? Is it ok to breastfeed after taking misoprostol?
Hi, Thanks for the query. Both mifepristone and misoprostol can excrete in breast milk. But their effect on infant is not yet established. According to available data there are no sufficient studies. Possibly the amount excreted in milk could be low. So, you can continue the breast feeding. And if any complications occur, consult pediatrician once. Better to use some regular method of contraception like progesterone pills, intrauterine device etc to prevent this complications in future. Take care.
