Is It Safe To Continue Levofloxacin To A Child With Recurring UTI?
I wanted to know if it is safe for a 9 yr old girl with a severe UTI high protein levels in 500 and increasing while taking Levofloxcian 750mg po 1 daily for 10days. They also have her taking prednisone for a on going chest cold since October and now her lungs possibly have fluid in them. This is the 4th UTI in 9 months for this little girl.
hi ideally, cause of uti must be explored for kidney or bladder issues and urinetest with culture be done to identify the bacteria and its sensitivity to antibiotics. In my opinion it is safer to use other antibiotics than levofloxacin unless there is pneumonia due to atypical bacterial infection of lung.urine culture/sensitivity may give that choice. also throat swab culture should be done for bacteria and a chest x ray for pneumonitis. If pneumonitis and bacteria are recognised in throat swb culture, then levofloxacin may be necessary as it covers a wide range of typical and atypical bacteria in endemic areas Regards,
