Is It Safe To Continue Intake Of Glimisave Max 1 Post Reduced Sugar Levels?

Dear Doctor, I m 67 yr of age with good eating habits and desk work. I have been recently diagonised with high blood sugar and the doctor has prescribed Glimisave Max 1, one before breakfast and one before dinner for 10 days. On the 8th day after taking the tab and arount 40 minutes of brisk walking/swimming, the sugar levels have come down drastically The current values are: Fasting: 117 mg/dl and post Prandial: 104 mg/dl Q: should I continue with theGlimisave 1, along with walking/swimming and diet restrictions, if yes, for how long? Q2: What are the side effects of this particular drug? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Presently, your blood sugar is in control and you want to know the side effects of Glimisave Max 1. The side effects of the said medicine are hypoglycemia, dizziness, weakness, nausea, headache, etc. Medicines for blood sugar are given only after close monitoring to prevent unnecessary side effects and complications thereafter. If you feel sick after having a test, you might need to adjust your diabetes medicine and your food and exercise plan for that day.

Be sure to check your blood sugar every 2 to 3 hours in case of experiencing side effects otherwise you should test it before taking medicines. Since your blood sugar levels are under control, do continue on your usual schedule of exercises, walking and swimming. Continue to observe your diet restrictions. Healthy lifestyle helps to successfully control blood sugar levels. Avoid stress of any kind. Stress may trigger blood sugar level.

After your blood sugar level is in control, you may not require taking Glimisave Max 1 regularly but can take it as and when required after testing your blood sugar level as maintenance dose. You are advised to consult a diabetologist to help you maintain charts to monitor your blood sugar level, diet restrictions and dose of the medicine you are required to take.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
