Is It Safe To Continue Iron With Folic Acid Tablets During Early Pregnancy?

I have been trying for a baby for one and half years but couldn t convince. I consult with doctor she give hyponidd,ip-3(iron with folic acid) and reopen.i have been taking these from one week but nowadays I feel like I am pregnant. I have taken appointment with my consultant but till then is it OK to continue these tablets or not

Hi,

It is not advisable to take iron during first 3 months of your pregnancy. Folic acid should be started as soon as you start trying for conceiving to avoid neural tube defects.

It would be better if you replace iron-folate combination drug by plain folic acid, till your pregnancy is confirmed or ruled out.
