Is It Safe To Continue Massage Treatment While Suffering From Back Pain?
Hello, I am a massage therapist and one of my clients has mottled skin around her spine between t-6 and L-5. She says she goes to the emergency room weekly for severe back pain but does not have a diagnosis from a dr. I am wondering if it is recommended to continue massage treatments.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Mottled skin can be due to allergy to the drug used for massage or peripheral neuropathy due to spinal nerve compression at the site. Please try giving a gap in therapy. If it's an allergic rash, it should be gone in a few days (15-20 days). In such cases, change the massaging medication. Continue massaging in case there is no positive effect of stopping the massage.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
