Is It Safe To Continue With Metformin To Control Diabetes?
Hi, yes I just posted it. I control Diabetes II with two doses of metformin 1000mg daily, but a cortisone shot yesterday sent blood sugar level to 175 this morning before breakfast and 374 after. A later check showed that it was 174. Should I take a third Metformin pill to get it back to the normal level or would that be too much Metformin? YYYY@YYYY
Maximum daily doses of Metformin is 2500 mg, but the maximum dose is generally not recommended for the erderly, so an option is to add 500mg.
The best option is to take 1500 mg Metformin with extended-release (in the morning) and 850 mg with immediate-release (in the dinner) for as long you're taking cortisone.
Wish you good health!
Dr. Elton
