Hi, my actual period for April is 7/4/15, first time i took Norethisterone pill 3 days before on 4/4/15. I stop taking the pill on 10/4/15. On 13/4/15 my period came. And now i have to go for vacationon 8/5/15. How am i actually have to count my next period on May? is 28days after based on my actual day (7/4/15)or 28days after based on date of delay (13/4/15)? and im worry is it ok to take the pill to delay my period for 2 continues cycle month. any side effect to delay my 2 cycle month of period? Appreciate for your kind explanation on the above query. Thank you.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Hormonal preparation like norethisterone is used to delay periods and the drug is quite safe. It works only for the time when used and the periods start once the drug is stopped. So, you can safely take the drug to delay the periods for another month without any ill-effect. The next date of cycle is calculated from your own date of period. The bleeding caused after stopping the hormone is actually withdrawal bleeding and not actual menstrual bleeding. It would be good if you take your hormonal preperation under gynecological supervision.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
