Is It Safe To Feed The Baby When Taking Carbimazole For Overactive Thyroid?

Hello. I am a breastfeeding mother and have to start on carbimazole to treat overactive thyroid (20mg). Have been advised to wean my baby on to formula by endocrinologist. However I have read conflicting reports on its safety. My baby usually sleeps 8 hrs straight at night. If I take the drug before bed would this mean I am able to feed her? How long does the drug stay in the body? Many thanks.

thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com....

well generally patients are advised to replace carbimazole with propylthiouracil during pregnancy and lactation....
this is in association to the ill effects of carbimazole as evidenced following use in pregnant mothers and their babies...

so i would suggest you to visit your doctor and he might change your drug....

hope this was helpful....
regards
