He now wants to fly again in October on another 4 hour flight. Would you recommend this? He had varices banded also.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Flying with ascites can expand the fluid in abdomen and cause aggravation of the symptom. I would not advise an air travel for your father specially at his age and past experiences he has confirm the prohibition. Vericosities are aggravated with increased chances of clot formation due to long sitting in air travel so avoid it.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
