Is It Safe To Give Dolopar For Recurring Fever In Children?
Hello Doctor,My 4 year and 9 Months old kid had her DPT injection on 27/Jun/2015. She got fever by 28/jun/2015 evening. We gave her Doloper 250. Fever gets down after dolo. But starts again after 4-5 Hrs.Earlier she had DPAT and this time we went for DPT as there is no DPAT Stock.Kindly help us in getting the below clarification,1. Will there be issue in changing to DPT whereas in past we had DPAT?2. How long fever Persists? Shall we continue with giving Doloper 250? Currently we are giving her after 6 hrs. Fever Temp- 100/101 F 3. How to settle the swelling at injection area?
As per my clinical experience, the sequence of fever is usual for a tiny tot after vaccination due to immune response. The DPT and DPAT will not pause issue of fever due to formulation differences. The Dolopar has to be continued every 6 hourly. Usually it takes around a period of 1-2 days to settle down the temperature spikes. Local area swelling can be relieved by ice application.
However, if the fever continues on third day, immediately consult his pediatrician for further guidelines. Maintain hydration with plenty of liquids throughout the period of therapy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
