Hi there. I would really like a Peds Neurologist help with my questions. My eight year old son went from having simple motor tics to complex motor tics. We have seen a few Peds Neurologist here and the dx thus far is complex motor tics. He is getting frustrated with the tics (face, arms, legs) and I am feeling so helpless. I am a Pediatrician and feel so helpless. I realize the course of tics and they wax and wane. I am unsure of the trigger at times. I was given a script for Clonidine (0.1mg)-1/2 tab bid. We started it qd for four days and have only taken it bid for two days. I know that it takes about two weeks to see if the Clonidine is helping. My questions are:1) His tics seem to be worse, is that what happens initially with Clonidine or is it an indication that it may not help? Or do I just stay optimistic and wait the few weeks. He is a bit more emotional; however, nothing else noted.2)Can he take his Magnesium supplement (Magnesium Gluconate) while he is on the Clonidine? I was wanting to give it a few hours apart.3)Now, a question from a mother s heart. Is there a chance he can outgrow this? I realize that there is a chance of vocal tics as he gets older and the dx of TS is there. I have heard that children have a hard time until puberty is completed and some do outgrow this. What is your experience? Thanks so much. I appreciate your help.
