Hi,
1. Most of the cases of fever encountered in general practice are viral, self limiting and would require only symptomatic treatment
2. Since after giving symptomatic treatment, fever is still coming on and off, check with a pediatrician (if not done), who might ask for routine investigations- Hb%, WBC, ESR,
Widal test, urine and chest X-ray
PS. Additional treatment will depend on the cause of the fever, so one has to evaluate the associated symptoms like pallor,
jaundice, neck
stiffness, abdomen for liver and spleen and Auscultation of chest, and see if there is a running epidemic in the locality.
3. Simple
viral fever do not require antibiotics, so investigate in detail or
consult a pediatrician, since he must be aware of the common causes of fever (in child), and the symptoms and warning signals suggesting that this may not be a simple fever.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
