Is It Safe To Have A Baby When Amniotic Levels Go Down?
Hi, My doctor says amniotic fluid levels are going down. She has done scanning twice for the last 2 weeks and said she will observe the levels for one more week and decide on Delivering.
My LMP : 26-06-2013
EDD as per scan report is 12-04-2014
Please let me know whether it is safe to have baby at this point of time?
Amniotic fluid provides a cushion for the baby to move about. Dwindling amniotic fluid is associated with problems in fetal growth and also babies with less fluid tend to be asphyxiated inside the uterus. So it is better to deliver them as the environment inside the uterus begins to become hostile for them and they do better outside. The baby is completely mature at 37 weeks and delivery after that does not pose much risk to the baby. You will be 37 weeks on 22 March and delivery after them must not be an issue for the baby. Most babies are well developed by 37 weeks and all systems are functional. The major issues are the lungs that are last to develop and they are developed by 37 weeks.
