Is It Safe To Hold Nose And Blow Hard To Clean Mucus From Eyes?
Hi. My mother suffers with ulcerative colitis and with that, she suffers with white, thick mucus running out of her eyes. The doctors do not know what to do for her and have told her that she has mucus in her eyes because of the inflammation in her body. To clean her eyes, she uses a wash, but recently while using the wash, she tends to hold her nose and blow hard while her eyes are in the water, causing air bubbles in the water. Is this safe to do?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The eye discharge with a background of ulcerative colitis is suggestive of inflammation of the uveal tract probably sarcoidosis. Cleaning and washing of the mucus from eyes is just a temporary treatment. Proper management of the problem is required. You need to consult your ophthalmologist for clinical examination of the eyes. In case sarcoidosis is present, appropriate drugs, most probably steroids will be prescribed for treatment.
