Hello this is just a quick question in relation to my preauricular ear pit. I ve only recently become familiar with the medical term after searching Google. I was born with two preauricular ear pits (one on each ear) but had the left one removed as a toddler as it kept getting infected. My question is, would it be safe to pierce through that already existing hole? I ve always wanted to get a piercing there but wasn t sure if I could and as for the other side there is quite a noticeable scar. I m assuming preauricular pits are genetic because 3 generations of my family all have at least one on their ear... Should I just leave it or could I put jewellery in it? Thank you very much.
Pre-auricular pits are congenital birth defects which are not a major concern of worry. You should not disturb the silent pre-auricular pit or else if it gets infected due to piercing, there will an abscess formation and would require an excision of the pre-auricular sinus surgery. If I were you, i would have just left it without disturbing it to avoid it getting infected. Hope the above solves your query. thanks and regards Dr nandu Kolwadkar
