Is It Safe To Probe Healthy Tooth During Molar Tooth Filling?
Hi, I had a inter proximal cavity. I had the second Molar tooth filled, which was on down left of my mouth. At the end, doctor said the upper tooth is pushing on the second Molar tooth that he just filled it, so he probed the upper tooth 2 times. I wonder if that is fine to probe a healthy tooth just because it is pushing on the other?
Well probing on a healthy teeth is not at all problematical. The dentist you visited has done filling on your left side lower quadrant tooth. He must have asked you to bring your teeth in occlusal contact mean in a position the way you chew food. Then there was occusal contact points between two teeth that is the reason because lower and upper teeth were in abnormal contact and was applying pressure on each other which can cause pain in jaw and problem in temporomandibular joint which in turn causes difficulty in movement, chewing.
So occlusal contact points have to be relieved so he probed on filling and other tooth just to check if any high points or any occlusal catch points or caries on healthy tooth.
Need not to worry. Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
