Is It Safe To Shower While Having An Open Burn Wound On The Buttocks?
I live in Austin, Texas and today we have received a boil water use ban from flooding water due to heavy rain, the first ever. I burned one of my buttocks while sitting on a too hot heating pad and am receiving wound care for the burn. We have been told by the city of Austin we cannot drink our water but that it is fine to take a shower. With the open wound on my bottom do you think it is safe for me to shower?
Get the burned wound cleaned and antiseptic dressing done on alternate days for better wound healing. Yes, you can take a shower. Be gentle with the wound. After you take a shower, get antiseptic dressing done. Keep the wound covered with a bandage. A moist, covered environment helps burns heal better.
Keep the wound sterile to avoid infection. If you are doubtful about the cleanliness of the water, you will be using for shower keep the wound covered when you shower. You can get it cleaned and antiseptic dressing done in the ER or by your health care provider / nurse. Keep it clean for better and faster healing.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
