Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 77-year-old woman with pancreatic cancer. My doctor prescribed steroids (Medrol 4 mg. dosepak) for a blocked eustachian tube after other treatments (decongestant, Flonase spray) were uneffective. However, my pulse this morning is 113. I have been having a rapid pulse for a few weeks, and my doctor knows this. Is it safe to take the steroids? Will they further increase my pulse rate?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Steroids such as Medrol can increase heart rate and blood pressure as potential side effects. Therefore, if you already have a high pulse rate, it is important to talk to your doctor about the potential risks and benefits of taking steroids.
Your doctor may want to monitor your heart rate and blood pressure while you are taking steroids to make sure they are not causing any adverse effects. Additionally, they may want to adjust your steroid dosage or consider other treatment options based on your health status.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
