Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Safe To Swim Before Undergoing Tonsil Surgery?
My 2 1/2 year old will be getting his tonsils and adenoids removed next week. They have him on an oral antibiotic to clear up any infections before surgery. He will be in the pool every day until the surgery and I noticed after swimming today, he sounded more nasaly than the last few days. Could the water/chlorine be interfering with the antibiotic and I should not have him swim before surgery?
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. Regarding your question- water or chlorine will not interact with the antibiotic but he might catch cold or some breathlessness if he aspirates water - this might become the reason for postponement of surgery as anaesthetist will not be comfortable in giving anaesthesia. Please avoid water sports / pool till surgery and recovery. Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health. Dr. Sumanth MBBS., DCH., DNB (Paed).,
