Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had bumps on my body, mostly neck to upper leg for 7 weeks. Over that period of time, I have had 200 bumps that look like chicken pox. I have had many tests and only ASO (I think) Strep A came back positive at a lower level and chicken pox was negative. I have been on Clindimyscin & Cednifor (sp) antibotics for 3 weeks, but did not help. I got off of it and i still got bumps, but not as many. I finally had another biopsy on two of the bumps front and back, and it tested positive for acute folliculitus. Can you please tell me how I got this? I have not been in a pool or hot tub in 10 years. The doctor now wants me to go to the swimming pool if it is highly chlorinated every two days and take doxycycline. What do you think?
Folliculitis is a bacterial infection caused at the root of hair follicle. Swimming with an active infection is not a good option, since any open infections present can get irritated by the high chlorine content. This can flare up the infection. Hence, I would recommend you to wait for 10 days and complete your antibiotic course before considering swimming.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
