Is It Safe To Switch Over From Citalopram To Valdoxan?

Hi, I have been on citalopram for approximately 15 years and my doctor has asked me to come off them and go onto Valdoxan. I have reduced my cipromil (which I take on a morning) from 30mg to 20mg over a couple of months and this morning reduced to 10mg. I started taking 25mg tablets of Valdoxan approximately 4 weeks ago (which I take on an evening to help me sleep). My question is am I doing the right thing and what is the difference between the medication. I am worried about the change. Thank you so much. Lesley

Welcome to health care magic.
Valdoxan belongs to a class of medicines called antidepressants. It is used to treat depression. Depression is believed to be caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Valdoxan helps restore this chemical imbalance which can help improve symptoms of depression.
Citalopram is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

Citalopram is used to treat depression.

Both these medications are useful but a decision to change medication is taken by a doctor who is completely aware of his patients medical history.
He is your best judge.
So i would advice you to discuss and clear your doubts with local doctor who has advised this change.
And dont drive if you are on these medications.
Thanks and regards.
