Hi,
It is not safe to take amyl while suffering from
chronic liver disease. Ceptin does not appear to cause or exacerbate liver injury and actually it is beneficial in patients with chronic liver disease. Ceptin is only contraindicated if you have advanced cirrhosis particularly with
encephalopathy which may cause hypoxia thereby increasing the risk of a serious condition called
lactic acidosis.
Amaryl is metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine and feces. Patients with chronic liver disease treated with amaryl may be exposed to higher serum drug concentrations, which can increase the potential for
severe hypoglycemia. In the presence of liver disease amaryl should be used cautiously by reducing its dosage and longer intervals between dosage adjustments may be required.
Moreover, hypoglycemia, if it occurs during treatment, may be prolonged in liver disease because of slowed
metabolism and/or excretion of the drugs. So, in view of the above it is not advisable to take amaryl while suffering from chronic liver disease.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
