Is It Safe To Take Arginine While On Metformin And Januvia?
I am a diabetic male at 55 years old with good control of my sugar levels. I take Metformin 100 g twice a day and 50 g Januvia once a day. I have started to take 3-4 mile walks and workout in the gym. My sugar numbers haven t changed but I have now started to take 1000 mg L-Arginine three capsuls and noticed the sugar levels went down favorably. I wanted to know if the combination of the three mentioned supplements are dangerous to take. What do you think?
L- Arginine is an amino-acid and is used as a supplement in Hypertension and also in pregnancy induced hypertension. It has also found to reduce blood sugar levels. You can take the drug and it is usually safe in most patients. Avoid further increasing the dose which may cause side effects. Avoid taking the drug if your are also taking medications for heart since this drug can interact with cardiac drugs.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
