Is It Safe To Take Buspirone Instead Of Clonazepam For Acute Panic Attack?

Thank you. I have been taking 10mg of Lexapro for about 8 weeks for GAD/Panic Attacks. This is my 1st experience with a daily medication. I also have Clonazepam .5mg and take this only when I m in the midst of a panic attack. I haven t taken this in about 6 weeks. The lexapro has been working very well and I m much relieved. The script was from my physician in the interim of waiting for my appt with a psychiatrist. I just saw the psychiatrist this week and he prescribed Busiprone 5mg 3x/day instead of the Clonazepam. My question and concern is that I only was taking the Clonazepam during an acute panic attack, or in anticipation of one. I m not comfortable thinking that I need to take the Busiprone 3x/day in addition to the Lexapro (which he also increased to 20mg). Any thoughts on this treatment plan? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If you don't get symptoms with buspirone alone u may give trial, Clonazepam highest dose is 20, never exceeds this! It may be your physical and checkup reveals him to do that or how many times you get attack is one possibility so once take follow up again!

In one new research done in few patients, Sudarshan kriya breathing exercise, totally prevents relapse when combined with medical treatment. You can do both.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
