Is It Safe To Take Cefdinir For Ear Infection During Pregnancy?

I am asking a question for my pregnant wife. She got ear infection and we got prescriptions from doctors. The one we just received is Cefdinir, which was suggested potential maternal toxic on your website. We immediately called doc and he agrees to search for safe ones. However, working in pharma R&D for a couple of years, I had doubt that any medicine is really safe for her or baby...

Hi.Cephalosporins are safe during pregnancy. Cefdinir is category B drug and can be taken during pregnancy. No harmful effects studied in humans . You are right that one should avoid all drugs in pregnancy but we need to treat all infections in pregnancy also. Another choice and I suppose a good choice for ear infection is tab. Augmentin 625 mg tds safe in pregnancy.
