Is It Safe To Take Concor Instead Of Cardace To Treat BP?

Good morning Dr Rynne, Yesterday my cardiologist (went for a second opinion) changed the BP medication from Cardace 2.5 to Concor 2.5, which he said includes a beta blocker. My history says Post PTCA + Stent to LAD and POBA to D1 about a year and a half ago (Jan-2014). I am mostly fine, go for walks occasionally, do 2 to 2.5 mins work out on the exerciser, occasionally jump rope and again occasionally do yoga. Lately, I have become very anxiety prone in the last 3-4 months. For the first time about 4 days ago, I took a relaxant to handle the anxiety and high pulse rate (Clonotril 0.25). This second-opinion cardiologist is the one who had suggested low-oil food to control cholestrol and I have been at it since last 4 months. He was though happy to see my lipid profile. However, he changed the BP medicine (he measured my pulse at that time was 80 bpm, and during state of anxiety can go to 100 bpm). I read that Concor will put me in a held back state and slow down my heart. My concern is: is there any side effect or will it prevent my current level of activity? Thanks so much in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Concor is a beta blocker and would help to control the heart rate if this is an issue.

Cardace is a ACE inhibitor.

They are both effective in the control of blood pressure but act in different ways.
The cardace would not prevent or inhibit your activity in anyway.

Like all medications there are possible side effects but these effects may not necessarily occur.

Side effects tend to occur in the minority of persons.

I hope this helps
