Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on Xarelto for Atrial Fib. I have been reading the health benefits of Curcumin but also realize that when on anticoagulants, they usually do not advise antiinflamatories. Is it possible to take Curcumin with Xarelto. If no, is there an anticoagulant that one can take Curcumin?
Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) is an anticlotting medication ("blood thinner") used to prevent blood clots from forming due to a certain irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation) or after hip or knee replacement surgery.
Its most common side effects include easy easy bruising or minor bleeding (such as nosebleed, bleeding from cuts).
Although curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties, it can magnify the anti-clotting effects of Xarelto as mentioned above if taken together thus resulting in increased risk of bleeding or bruising.
As such there is no anticoagulant that can be taken safely while on Curcumin. So, in view of the above, it is better to avoid taking curcumin while on Xarelto.
Hope these answer your query.
