Is It Safe To Take Diazepam, Temazepam And Sertraline Together?

My partner is trying to quit from heroin addiction (injection) and was prescribed with diazepam 5mg twice a day and temazepam 10-20mg at night and on top of that he is also on sertraline 100mg daily. Are these safe for him to take altogether? He s totally knocked out with first dose of valium today. He didnt want methadone as option as he was on it few years back. Im worried he might get addicted to benzos. Is it possible? What are the risks of being on this combination? Thanks.

Hello,

It is very good to know that your partners is quitting heroin addiction. He should gradually taper his intakes so that he experiences less severe withdrawal symptoms. To manage withdrawal symptoms he has been given the medicines you mentioned here. Since after taking Diazepam (Valium) he is getting knocked out you may consult with the treating doctor and monitor the other two medicines according to the needs(symptoms).

Temazepam is a Restoril, commonly given to manage insomnia. Sertraline is an antidepressant, SSRI, given to manage symptoms of depression, anxiety or panic attacks. You are suggested to get your partner connected to a detox center where he can successfully come out of the addiction and withdrawal symptoms can be managed as & when required while he stays comfortable.
