Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Safe To Take Diflucan And Econazole For Yeast Infection In Vagina?
I have a yeast infection in my vagina from taking antibiotics. I am taking Diflucan 1 pill and I have a yeast infection on the vulva area the bottom between the vagina and the anus is red and itchy too. Is the Econazole Nitrate 1 percent sufficient and appropriate? Ms. Orenstein.
I think, if it is yeast infection, then it is the right treatment ,you are taking. This treatment is sufficient and appropriate in most of the cases. However, the exact dosage and duration of treatment, must be under guidance of your doctor, as a treatment taken for a shorter period than needed, may cause relapse of the condition, due to incomplete eradication of the yeast.
Also, if you are sexually active, kindly see, if your partner may also be infected and he may also need the treatment simultaneously to avoid the possibility of re- infection. Still, if you are not cured by this treatment, it is always better to consult your doctor, as this treatment may not be working and you might be needed some other antifungal. Also, some times, you may be suffering from some other infection than a yeast infection and also many a times mixed infections are also there, requiring the treatment for more than one type of infections simultaneously.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
