Hello! Welcome to HCM! Let me answer your question for I am concerned about the path you are considering. Of recent years the
HCG diet has been very popular producing
rapid weight loss (water weight at first), but at a terrible cost for many, particularly anyone with a
clotting disorder or on coumadin/blood thinners.
The hormone HCG has never been proven to cause the weight loss, but rather the over-restrictive diet. The diet itself tends to cause gallstones, irregular heartbeats and electrolyte balance problems.
Other side-effects more pertinent to you would be the side-effects of fluid buildup,
blood clots. HCG, while not effective for weight loss,is still a hormone and has side-effects.
For your own safety, seek a more lifestyle oriented approach to losing weight. I highly encourage your efforts, but use the powerful knowledge of nutrition, walking, social support to lose your weight. Seeing a Dietitian for a period of time might be a good way to get started and on track.
I wish you success. Kathryn J. Shattler, MS,RDN
